VISUAL EFFECTS SUPERVISION
Visual effects supervision involves the design, production and creative approach and orientation to improbable or impossible events, historical or fictional encounters in realities or environments we do not know specifically as a reality, or as imaginative fantastical places of a future we have not yet experienced, (where an unhindered science fiction may become science fact through stories, dreams or hallucinations). Visual effects is a way of looking at the world interpretively to solve problems which exist between a believable understanding of the perception of our realities and the interpretative world of the imagination. Generally we use science and mathematics to simulate the same reality in a manipulatable, dynamic 2d and 3d representative environment, where the minutiae of reality can be re-enacted using captured imagery, computer technology and/or scaled model technologies and the human practice of artifice. Visual effects exists in the realm of suspended belief and surprise, and involves holding the many collective parties collaboratively together through a design stage (where possibility has a grounding in interpretation through specialist equipment, practices and achievable creative tolerances enacted by mind, body and specialised tool), a production stage (where replication and simulation blend the analogue with the digital in the liminal stage to reveal a new understandings about reality) and the reception and iterative stage (where the lucidity of production finds its grounding in new reality.
TED LASSO SERIES FOR APPLE+
Ted Lasso follows the antics, events and politics of a best intentioned American football coach joining Richmond FC in London, England. Unbeknownst to Ted Lasso (Jason Sedakis) English football is a slightly different game. The series featured a number of shots that had to be filmed in a Premiership football stadium simulating Richmond FC meeting some of the more well known English football teams. Because of contactual obligations regarding Premiership television rights it was not possible to film the match sequences in a Premiership stadium on a match day with full crowd. Crystal Palace stadium was used as a background to match day shots. A separate exterior match shoot for the on pitch action was shot at night under floodlight on a separate athletics pitch with blue screen sections & hoardings around the pitch to enable some separation for main action. Crowd section were filmed where possible with the numbers of extras in the stadium alongside sprites for background crowd, so that matched pitch foreground action, background stadium & additional crowds could be added cost effectively for the match scenes and sequences of cast on the pitch during match days. Main episodes in Ted Lasso Series 1 with VFX were "The Hope that Kills You", "Tan Lines" and "Biscuits"
