Animation
Bringing things to life by animating creatures, characters, plants, animals, objects and environments requires an understanding of not only why an entity moves as it does, but also an interpretion of what motivates and affects the entity, how and why it is affected because of what it feels because of its connection to its world.
Visual-Effects
Visual-effects is the simulation of an impossible, fantatstical, fictional or factual encounter, event, entity or phenomenon, that has both a practical approach to a realisable understaning in reality through VFX shoot preparation and supervision and a theoretical interpretation in production that requires enhancement, extrapolation, embellishment or elaboration using play, R&D, experimentation, iteration and intgration to suspend belief that science fiction could be science fact in media productions.
Motion design
Motion or graphic design uses representation and referencing to express, communicate, explain or describe significant, symbolic and semantic phenomenon through an applied knowlege of semiotics and the language and grammar of practices representing interpretative action. Design is an embodied practice dependent on an understanding of how interpretation happens through self-understanding and the environment or worlds we live in using metaphors. We are all designers, we design our worlds and they design us.
Virtual Production
Virtual production is a practice of recording in real life performance of actors, animals and object movement in physical foreground and midground sets with digitally created virtual background environments at high resolution, by linking the live action recording camera movement with virtual computer camera movement to that physical an virtual worlds move in prspctive with one another. Virtual production uses game engin technologies and softwares to build environmnts that are optimised to run using real time rendering gpu engines and can be back projected using LED walls or green screen separation to view the virtual background in situ with the recorded live action performance.
Live Action & Performance for VFX
From the beginning of my film career, producing live action shoots for animation, visual effects, immersive media and performances has been aconsistent requiremnet for our skillset and practices, both on the production, shoot supervision and 2nd unit VFX direction side. Three Wise Monkeys Studio undertakes shoot production, using budgets efficiently across analogue film-based camera practices and subsequently in digital computer animation and digital compositing, iot has always been a pre-requisite to produce live action as part of the wider project. This has involved a fiull understanding of prodiuction management and producing for live action putting together and collaborating with set and location construction teamsd for large and small scale builds, art direction across multiple sets, with a deep understanding of camera technology, camera teams and their equipment, lighting and electrical units and crane, motion control and camera head technologies and operators for use in repeatable and multiple pass shooting. This has been a vitalcomponent to managing budgets and delivering highest quality production value by using budgets cost effeiciently putting budget on screen. It has also enabled us to produce and supervise virtual production shoots as well as shooting background plates for animation and visual effects, undertaking environment capture using LiDar, photogrammetry, volumetric capture and perforemance using motion capture technologies. We produce a wide range of live action performance, tabletop, studio, location, virtual production with large scale set builds for commercials, HETV drama, documentary, music, sport and celebrity shoots.
Immersive Media
Immersive Media is an experiential format of media where perception and proprioception register consciously an orientation within the media as emotionally and physically accurate,. The body and mind inhabit the media and experience aesthetic and emotional feelings associated with the storytelling such as awe, terror, disorientation, levitation, weightlessnss, vertigo, heat, touch, smells amongst many other synaesthetic feelings. Large scale projection formats such as IMAX, Cinemascope, location & site specific contextual projections onto buildings, gallery walls, LED or back projection screens, enable audiences to inhabit the media by remediating previous related experiences within stories, spectacles and other world journeys..
VR, AR, 360 and XR
We have produced multiple virtual reality, 360 live action, augmented reality and mixed reality projects for experiential entertainment, brand and peroduct promotion, pharmaceutical, health and sport based productions. We work with coders using C Sharp, Python and Unity and Unreal across multiple headsets using volumentric augmented assets, depth camera technoloogies and ambient environment sensors.
Consultancy
We undertake consultancy for strategic media company management, innovation or media post production facilities, building niches for competitive advantage using emerging technologies applicable to live action, animation, visual effects, immersive media, virtual production and generative AI integrations and roadmaps.
